Join Rockhurst University's new President Sandra Cassady, Ph.D., for the annual RU St. Louis Leadership Series Luncheon featuring keynote speaker Charlie Brennan, former KMOX personality, influential radio host, author and St. Louis advocate.
Charlie Brennan oversaw radio station KMOX's top-rated weekday mid-mornings from 2010 until this past May. Charlie has been voted St. Louis' favorite talk show host four times in the Readers’ Polls of the Riverfront Times. In 1998, he was named Media Person of the Year by the St. Louis Press Club. Brennan was named one of America's top 25 "most influential radio talk show hosts" in USA Today. Brennan has worked at KMOX since 1988, after working in Boston radio beginning in 1982. He is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and a graduate of Boston College, a Jesuit University.
Following Charlie’s keynote address, the Rockhurst University St. Louis Leaders Council will present the Magis Award and the Faber Young Alumni Award to St. Louis area alumni.
MAGIS AWARD
Drs. Tom, ’81, and Mary Hastings
The Magis Award is given to members of the Rockhurst community in St. Louis who epitomize the Jesuit core value of “magis,” or “more”. This year’s Magis Award recipients, Drs. Tom, ’81, and Mary Hastings, strive for more in their careers as leaders in the St. Louis medical and faith communities. Tom practices internal medicine at Esse Health, an independent physician group, and is well known for his quality metrics. Mary has practiced family medicine in various locations including the St. Louis County Jail and teaching in different family medicine residencies. She now volunteers in several clinics for uninsured immigrants and those in rural Missouri. Tom and Mary first met in a bioethics class Tom’s senior year at Rockhurst. They are advocates for faith-based social justice in the greater St. Louis community and abroad. They have traveled to serve others in medical missions in Belize and El Salvador. They have sponsored a Belizean student to attend Rockhurst and are currently hosting a Ukrainian couple in their home. On the Rockhurst campus they donated the “Angels Unawares” statue in front of Arrupe Hall, named for the founder of the Jesuit Refugee Service. After Tom's sister, Terri Hastings Lamanno, ’06, was killed in 2014, they founded a scholarship in her name for students to study occupational therapy and were glad to be a part of the beautiful transformation of Sedgwick Hall. Tom and Mary are parents to four grown children who have chosen their own individual paths of service, continuing the mission of being men and women for, and with, others.
FABER YOUNG ALUMNI AWARD
The Faber Young Alumni award will be presented to Erik Petersen, ’09. Erik is a member of the Rockhurst University
St. Louis Leaders Council and is a real estate agent with Berkshire Hathaway Alliance, Breihan Malecek Petersen & James. Erik is committed to the service of others through his work as the Recruitment Chairman for the St. Louis Leaders Council, his involvement with philanthropic organizations APA, Happy to Give and Sunshine Kids.
