With career opportunities ranging from entry-level practice, healthcare administration, and doctoral-level research, nursing provides a professional path with security, longevity, value and opportunities for advancement.

Pre-nursing at Rockhurst is not a major, but rather an advising track in which students take prerequisite coursework in preparation to apply to competitive nursing programs that offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an Accelerated BSN after earning a Rockhurst degree in a formal major.

Experiences

Nursing path options at Rockhurst:

  • Traditional Pre-Nursing: Students work closely with faculty and advisors to customize their first two years at Rockhurst to meet the requirements of the nursing schools they wish to apply. Faculty and advisors not only guide students through the appropriate coursework, but will also coach them through the application process, including co-curricular experiences that will help make them highly competitive applicants. Rockhurst pursues articulation agreements with area nursing programs that help create seamless transitions into the last two years of the BSN. The traditional pre-nursing path typically consists of two years at Rockhurst, and two years in the formal BSN program at an accredited nursing school from which the student will earn their final degree.

  • Bachelor of Science in Health Science / Pre-Nursing Track: Similar to traditional pre-nursing, the BS in Health Science Pre-Nursing track prepares students for pursuing a BSN through the process of also earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Science. In this path, the BSN can be earned post-graduation from Rockhurst, often through Accelerated Nursing Programs designed for students who have already earned a bachelor's degree in a different discipline.
