Following the release of his second book, Silencer, in September, Marcus Wicker will appear at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, in Rockhurst University’s Arrupe Hall Auditorium for a reading as the inaugural guest of the 35th season of the Midwest Poets Series.

Wicker’s first collection of poems, Maybe the Saddest Thing, was a finalist for an NAACP Image Award and was selected as a National Poetry Series winner. His poems have also appeared in The Nation, Poetry, American Poetry Review, Oxford American and Boston Review.

The poetry editor of Southern Indiana Review, published at University of Southern Indiana, Wicker has received a Ruth Lilly  and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship, a Pushcart Prize, the Miller Audio Prize, and fellowships from Cave Canem and the Fine Arts Work Center.
