Employment and Graduate School Acceptance 2016 - 2017

Rockhurst University Career Services

Executive Summary

The purpose of this report is to provide the Rockhurst University community with a record of employment trends and salary data from recent graduates, August 2016, December 2016 and May 2017.  Salary and placement information can be shared with current students and alumni when discussing career development opportunities.  However, do not provide direct student name/employer to current/prospective students and alumni.  For example, “Joe Smith works at ABC Company and Jane Thomas works at XYZ Company.  Contact them for employment leads.”  Rather, “Several Rockhurst University alumni have started their careers within these fields; you might want to check out these organizations.”  All information contained in this report is confidential and not to be shared with anyone outside of the Rockhurst University community.

Rockhurst University graduates experienced success when applying for professional career advancement following graduation.  Of the 457 alumni included in the report (73.0% knowledge rate of all first destination graduates), 96.9% (443) gained employment or acceptance into graduate or professional programs within six (6) months following graduation.  Keep in mind that the 96.9% rate is representative of 73.0% of the graduating class.  Therefore, please be judicious when using the 96.9% statistic.  Limited starting salary information is available through this report.  More detailed starting salary information can be found in Career Services through National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) materials.

One hundred thirty-four (134) alumni (29.3%) entered graduate or professional programs following their graduation from Rockhurst University.  These programs included medical and law schools, along with analytics, engineering, MBA, neuroscience, OT/PT, optometry, pharmacy, social work, veterinary medicine, writing and several others.  Candidates applied to an average of 2.51 graduate or professional programs with 93.2% now attending their first choice.

Special thanks to Caelee Lehman for her assistance in collecting and compiling data and Rachel Harper for providing database support.  Data were collected at several points, once at the Grad Fair in February and with an email six (6) months following graduation.  In addition, Rockhurst University faculty and staff provided supplemental information and data were researched on Facebook and LinkedIn.  Questions concerning the information contained in this report can be directed to Mike Theobald (ext. 4861) in Career Services.
