Pre-medical Post-baccalaureate Overview
The Pre-medical Post-baccalaureate Program at Rockhurst University provides future physicians with the foundational coursework, standardized test preparation and real-world experience necessary for a successful medical school application. If you have completed a baccalaureate program in any discipline, and now wish to fulfill science requirements for medical school, then the Pre-medical Post-baccalaureate Program at Rockhurst is for you.
The mission of the program is to provide quality science education and academic advising for individuals with a desire to pursue a career path in health sciences such as medicine, dentistry or as a physician assistant.
In addition to having a strong academic record and a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.3, applicants must supply the following materials:
- Completed application form, which can be requested by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications are not available online.
- Official transcripts from all previous college(s)
- ACT or SAT scores
- An essay explaining your intentions (no more than 500 words)
- A phone interview or on-campus interview with Dr. Laura Salem, program director
Students develop individual plans along with academic advisor and program director Dr. Laura Salem. Advising meetings take place every semester. Students typically take the following courses:
General Biology I and II with lab
General Chemistry I and II with lab
Physics I and II with lab
Organic Chemistry I and II with lab
Elective courses include: Genetics, General Physiology, Biochemistry, Advanced Human Anatomy, Microbiology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology
Some coursework can be completed during the summer term. It is recommended that all of the coursework be taken at Rockhurst.
Students have the opportunity to shadow physicians, participate in clinical volunteering and interview with the Rockhurst Pre-health Advisory Committee to receive feedback on application materials before submitting their medical school applications.
Each year, admissions representatives from local and regional medical schools meet with prospective students. Additionally, alumni who are currently enrolled in medical school frequently return to Rockhurst to share their experiences.
Successful students in the program will be granted a certificate of completion. A cumulative GPA of 3.3 must be maintained to continue in the program. Students enrolled in the program are held to the same rules and policies as the typical undergraduate student at Rockhurst University.
