Ignatian Heritage Month
The Office of Mission and Ministry will host a month of events in September for Ignatian Heritage Month, its fifth celebration of Rockhurst University’s Jesuit roots honoring the founder of the Society of Jesus, St. Ignatius of Loyola.
Please join us for Mass of the Holy Spirit, an annual event celebrated by all Jesuit institutions across the country. A picnic lunch will be served on the Kinerk Commons following Mass.
Tom Gallagher, attorney, business executive and contributor to the National Catholic Reporter, will discuss “Contemplation in Action in the Life of Mother Teresa of Calcutta.” Gallagher’s lecture coincides with the occasion of Mother Teresa’s canonization earlier in September. In his talk, he will share a brief history of contemplation in religious life and the development of “contemplation in action.” He also will connect the lessons of St. Ignatius of Loyola to Ireland’s Sisters of Loreto and Mother Teresa’s devotion to India and the world’s poorest people. Finally, he will share his thoughts about how each of us can live a life as a “contemplative in action” and how Saint Mother Teresa’s example is approachable, accessible and one that everyone can follow.
